Cooking and the Hunter’s Call[]
Each defeated Kraken tentacle drops a piece of Kraken Meat. This meat can be cooked and eaten or sold to The Hunter’s Call. Like Megalodon Meat, cooked Kraken meat can be eaten twice, replenishes 100% health and gives half a circle of health regeneration. Under-cooked Kraken meat replenishes 90% health without giving regeneration and Burnt Kraken meat only restores 11% of the pirate’s health. Kraken meat takes about 2 minutes to fully cook. The easiest way to tell when it’s fully cooked is to look at the outer skin with the suckers. Selling 50 pieces of Kraken meat at Seaposts earns the player The The Hunter of the Monstrous Beast Commendation for The Hunter’s Call, which unlocks a Kraken Themed Facepaint Makeup for purchase at any Clothing Shop.

Emergent Encounters[]
These perilous encounters can occur at any time, no matter if another is also occurring. They can cross over into other encounters listed on this page, adding greater danger and challenge for the crew involved.
Skeleton Ship
Main article: Skeleton Ship
A Skeleton Galleon or Sloop can either appear roaming the open seas or as a random spawn beside a player Ship. These ships can be identified from afar with their tattered sails, unique green and blue lanterns, and are sailed by a crew of Skeletons. Viewing a Skeleton Ship through a spyglass provides a unique audio cue to further distinguish it between a Player’s ship. They are armed with one type of the many green or purple Cursed Cannonballs. They will usually roam from island to island, staying still for a moment until moving to another landmark. They can be aggressive immediately, or passive until Player Ship approach too closely or it is shot with a Cannon, then becoming aggressive, firing upon and following the Player’s Ship. The Skeletons on the ship can fix holes with planks and put out fires but they can’t bail water. Once a Skeleton Ship sinks, 3-12 pieces of Treasure items that were on board will float to the surface. Skeleton Ships have a high chance of dropping Skeleton quality loot.
Megalodon
Main article: Megalodon
Megalodons are huge sharks the size of Sloops who prey on unsuspecting crews in the Open Seas. There are five Megalodons of different colours, behaviours, and rarity who can appear from out the seas to a tense musical cue and start circling the crew’s ship. Like Krakens, these Megalodons can only appear in the Open Seas. When players get too close to landmarks or Islands, the Megalodon will often give up the chase, lying in wait for the ship to return from the shores. Every now and then, a Megalodon will charge at the ship, knocking the ship around along with crewmates close enough to the charge and leave the hull broken. Megalodons have to be fought off with Cannons and have differing health depending on the ship’s size. In addition to the Megalodon Meat, they have a similar reward pool to Skeleton Ships.

Trivia[]
- During The Hungering Deep event, a picture was sent via twitter to Sea of Thieves’ handle, which had a player character (Dr Nefari0us) dancing next to Merrick who looked very similar in appearance, and captioned «Hey @SeaOfThieves its me, merricks son, derrick». After the event was completed and Merrick was removed from the game, an in-game portrait of the two characters was left at his camp. When interacting with the painting, text reads «Met me son Derrick for the first time! Well, he says he’s me son. How can I deny it wiv a handsome mug like that?»
- Merrick lost both of his legs to the Megalodon, and now has double peglegs.
- A parrot took his eye. He describes the bird as a «huge, fearsome, vicious, crazed beast».
- Prior to the Hungering Deep campaign, Pirate Times described a livestock thief fitting Merrick’s description.
Feedback[]
The ping experienced by almost all players was negatively received throughout the tournament by participants and viewers. Players were consistently lagging back into positions, falling off ships, unable to grab items or efficiently combat other teams. As a consequence, players such as FoxDie were visibly frustrated throughout the event and suggest this should have been cancelled to deal with the issues, while other players such as Doed claimed this would be their last Sea of Champions.
The community watching the event expressed frustration as the commentators were often describing play well after the on screen play has happened. The differences between players stream delays also made the event confusing, as time would often jump several minutes forwards or backwards depending on the player the official SoC channel was observing.
Chromagon explained that «the server region is populated based on the majority region of the Captain accounts that setup the private match. Three NA East should theoretically make it an NA East server. As we saw today, there appears to be additional discrepancies happening that most certainly did not present themselves during our test matches. We have collected the data and feedback and will be talking with Rare about how to resolve these issues».
Despite the rules stating «Exploits that might allow multiple or single guns to be fired quicker than the developers intend», the double X reload exploit was allowed in the same way that the double dig or sword cancelling was allowed. Several players have been accused of having macro assisted exploits, which Chromagon will be investigating.

Plot in Sea of Thieves
Despite some criticism of the lack of content in the Sea of Thieves gameplay, the plot is well-developed and runs smoothly. It offers you to dive deeper into the pirate’s life, traveling from one land to another, making trades on behalf of different companies. The Sea of Thieves map is one of the main game’s advantages due to the open world and the beauty of the landscapes around.
Since it is a cross-platform game, you can play Sea of Thieves together with your friends, forming alliances, or competing against each other. Ship combats are highly evaluated by players around the world. The Sea of Thieves PC offers a first-person perspective experience on the ship, so you can’t miss firing the cannonballs. After the Sea of Thieves download is over, you may even do screenshots to save the glorious views.

Raids[]
Raids are unique Events in that while they share some elements with World Events, they have to be activated by the Player and are active at the same time as other World Events.
Fort of the Damned
Main article: Fort of the Damned (Raid)
The Fort of the Damned is currently the only Raid type World Event that can be activated at any time. To activate a Fort of the Damned Raid, Players need to light the Lanterns of the 6 Ferryman Statues inside the Fort with each Flame of Fate and place a Ritual Skull on the headless skeleton inside the ritual cage.
The start of the Raid is signaled by a massive Red Skull Cloud above the Fort of the Damned, after which, 12 waves of Shadow of Fate Skeletons will start spawning on the Players. After the last wave, Ghost of Graymarrow will appear, who needs to be killed for the Fort of the Damned Key. The Vault of the Fort contains various Treasure for all Trading Companies (even Athena’s Fortune and Reaper’s Bones).
Types of Ghost Ships[]
There are many variants of Ghost Ship, all of which are destroyed only by projectiles via Cannon hits. As a shorthand, their durability will be denoted as HP measured in the amount of cannon hits they take (any cannon projectile deals the same amount).
- 1. Grunt Ship (3 HP)
- The basic ship looking worse for wear.
- 2. Ghost Flagship (X HP)
- A full-sailed ship decorated with Pennants that appears during the final encounter of Ghost Ship Voyages.
- 3. Ghost Captain Ship (X HP)
- This ship sports the Ghost Captain Sails, appearing as the final encounter of Ghost Ship Voyages with variable health depending on the difficulty of the Voyage. It is accompanied by two Grunt Ships.
- 4. Ghostly Ashen Dragon Ship (~10 HP)
- This ship sports the Sails of the Ashen Dragon, appearing during the boss waves of the Ghost Fleet World Event. It is accompanied by two Grunt Ships.
- 5. The Burning Blade (24 HP)
- Flameheart’s Ship, sporting the Burning Blade Sails, is the final boss of the Ghost Fleet World Event. This ship has a more visible outline than the Ghostly Ashen Dragon Ship. It is accompanied by four Grunt Ships.
- 6. Ghost Brethren Ship (3 HP)
- This is the Grunt Ship equivalent summoned during Lords of the Sea, the difference is that it fires only ghostly apparitions of normal cannonballs instead of the usual suite of .
- 7. Ghost Brethren Captain Ship (10 HP)
- This is the Ghost Captain Ship equivalent summoned during Lords of the Sea, with the same cannonball restriction as the Ghost Bretheren Ship.
Mechanics[]
A Ship acts as a mobile base and command center, transporting supplies, Treasure, and other Quest rewards and items, as well as providing mobile access to player resources via Resource Barrels, Ammo Chests and the Armoury. A player’s current Ship also acts as their respawn point if they die (unless their Ship sank, in which case they respawn at a random Island).
A new Ship is automatically spawned when a player or team of players form a Crew. There is no cost to spawn a basic Ship. Cosmetic Ship customizations can be purchased via in-game currency, and once owned by a player, they can be applied and swapped by that player to their current Ship an unlimited number of times.
The maximum size of a crew is determined by the size of the Ship. There is no minimum crew size, even for larger Ships, and even a single player can elect to start a new game with a large Galleon (though operating such a large Ship alone would prove difficult).
The servers are currently capable of holding up to 6 Ships at one time.
Ship Damage
Every Ship can sustain damage from various sources and will eventually sink if not dealt with properly. Most damage to a ship can be fixed with Wooden Planks — This includes the Hull, Wheel, Masts and Capstan. The most dangerous damage is holes that appear in the hull as these start letting water into the ship until it floods and eventually sinks. The hull of a ship can take damage from shot Cannonballs, collision with large objects, large waves inside Storms, Gunpowder Barrel explosions, Fire and Volcanoes.
The Masts, Wheel and Capstan of a Ship can each sustain three Cannonball’s worth of damage, with each Cannonball hit requiring one Wooden Plank to repair. When hit by a Chainshot, these parts of the ship will take maximum damage. Chainshot do half the damage of a Cannonball to the Hull of a Ship or Player Pirates.
Cursed Cannonballs do not do any damage to a Ship, however they will apply special effects to the Ship or Crew. Purple Cursed Cannonballs apply different hindering effects to the Ship when hit. Green Cursed Cannonballs apply different hindering effects to the whole Crew when hit.
Fire can spread onto every surface of the ship, including masts, any floor, equipment and even atop the Crow’s Nest. Fire deals damage slowly. It takes from 1-2 minutes for a single patch of fire to deal 1 point of damage to a Capstan, Mast, Wheel or hull surface. Fire will spread infinitely on a ship until doused with water. When an item is left burning on a Stove for a while, the kitchen area will be set on fire. Fire is spread by getting hit by Lightning, thrown or shot Firebombs, or exploding Gunpowder Barrels.
A Blunderbomb that hits a Ship does not cause any damage to the Ship, but it will push it back as if the Ship were hit by a Gunpowder Barrel explosion.
Any sunk ships flying an Emissary Flag will leave the flag behind as a Broken Emissary Flag, which can be sold to the Reaper’s Bones for reputation and gold, depending on the emissary level the flag was on.
Scuttling
It is possible to Scuttle (sink) one’s own Ship voluntarily via the in-game Crew settings menu. Scuttling requires all Players of the Crew to vote on the decision, after which their Ship will be filled with unrepairable holes and sink. The Ship will then respawn at a random Island.
Players are taught how to scuttle their ship in the Ferry of the Damned, to get them out of a situation where another Crew is harassing them. Ships can also be scuttled to see whether the Crew missed any Treasure items onboard if they have been misplaced.

Encounter[]
There is a musical cue and the water around the ship darkens when the Kraken attacks. Ship movement in the dark water is minimal, but not halted. Drowning speed is dramatically increased in the inky waters.
Kraken arms will spawn in the area, the crew must kill enough arms to defeat the Kraken, or survive long enough.
There are 4 «types» of arms to the Kraken:
- «Inhaler» arms make a wind graphic on the deck and suck a player up into the arm. To avoid getting sucked in, go below deck or do damage to the open, inhaling «mouth» on a nearby tentacle. Once sucked, the player is rooted in the arm and it will occasionally slap them on the water’s surface, dealing a large amount of damage. Eventually, the arm will throw the player into the water a little ways from the ship. A trapped player can be freed early by damaging the arm or harpooning out of its mouth.
- «Tangling» arms wrap around the body of the ship, with the head of the wrapped tentacle popping out of the water close to either side of the ship or laying onto the deck of the ship. The wrap immobilizes the ship and causes holes in the hull over time and pulls the ship lower, causing some holes to take in water faster. Damaging the head of the wrapping tentacle is the quickest way of releasing the wrap. Gun and sword damage will cause it to splash poisonous Kraken blood on nearby attackers. Damaging the main body wrap on the deck can also release the wrap, but takes longer and may inflict poison damage.
- «Slapping» arms quickly spawn and slap hard against the side of the ship, causing movement and damage similar to a Gunpowder Barrel.
- «Target» arms just float around sticking straight up for players to shoot, rewarding loot upon being slain.
When the encounter is resolved, the inky water rapidly retreats away toward a horizon.
The Kraken has special durability scaling if it is summoned under a Sloop, tentacles spawn with lower health and higher damage reduction.

There are currently two different Game Modes in the Sea of Thieves: Adventure Mode and The Arena.
Adventure Mode
Main article: Adventure Mode
The Adventure Mode is your traditional Sea of Thieves experience, placing your Player Pirate and their Crew and Ship in one of the many Outposts in the titular Sea of Thieves, leaving you to find your own Adventures, by either following the Story mode of Tall Tales, going on Bilge Rats time-limited or permanent Adventures or earning Gold, Reputation and Commendations with the five main Trading Companies: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance, The Hunter’s Call and the Legendary Athena’s Fortune. Up to six Crews of up to four pirates can populate a single Adventure mode Server.
The Arena
Main article: The Arena
The Arena game-mode is focused for those who want to enjoy a more Structured Player versus Player experience, pitting up to five Crews against each other at the Sea Dogs Arena. The Glorious Sea Dogs are the sixth Trading Company that only offer Gold, Reputation and Commendations in the Arena game-mode. Arena Matches consist of 15 minute battles in various small circular areas inside the Sea of Thieves for the same X-Marks-The-Spot Treasure Maps hiding Sea Dog Chests that need to be battled for and sold to Sea Dog Agents on specific Sea Posts.
