Tips and Advice

  • It is recommended that beginners should play on an easier difficulty first before attempting hardcore mode.
  • Try to limit sprinting and jumping as these actions will make the player more hungry.
  • Immediately find enough resources and build a shelter before night (preferably a small cave), as hostile mobs will be much more lethal.
  • Avoid fighting hostile mobs until the player has proper equipment since all types of hostile mobs deal much more damage and can be an extreme threat to the player.
  • Do not enter caves unless prepared with at least some iron armor, a sword, a pickaxe, and some food.
  • Do not go to the Nether or the End unless you have the proper equipment.
  • Do not be afraid of losing items in a player’s inventory.
  • Players have only one life so remember that if the user dies, it’s game over for them, so it is not wise to leave behind good gear «in case one dies».
  • Do not try to make an «epic» world in the hardcore mode because it might be lost once death occurs.
  • Items with Curse of Vanishing are worth grabbing. Losing them upon death isn’t an issue, since you only have one life.
  • It may take a little more than 3 attempts to complete Hardcore Mode. Be patient!

Multiplayer[]

Hardcore mode is an option for multiplayer, and its functions are similar. Dying while in the server does not give the player an option to respawn, replaced with a button prompting the player to «Leave Server». When clicked, the player gets the message «You have died. Game over man, it’s game over!». If you try to reconnect to the server, it says «You are banned from this server! Reason: Death in Hardcore».

It is possible for a server admin to allow a player to rejoin after death, but the admin will need to stop the server and edit server files: First, deleting the player data from (Map name)> players > (deadplayer).dat, then going into the banned-players.txt and erasing the relevant data under the index ( banned by | banned until | reason). The admin can then restart the server and the affected player can spawn again. However, the player will appear at the original spawn point with no items, armor, or levels (because their player data has been deleted).

1 Avoid Unnecessary Risks

Perhaps the best tip players should take away when playing Hardcore is to avoid taking unnecessary risks. Players will often develop a cavalier attitude to death when playing the game on Normal. Some even utilize death as a quick means of transportation when exploring a new area or if they get lost. That same attitude will quickly lead to a game over if carried over into Hardcore mode.

Players should adopt a more calculated and cautious approach when doing any activity in this game. Mines should be well lit, players should have armor and weapons entering caves, heights should be avoided, and having the proper gear, enchantments, potions, and food is essential to fighting the Ender Dragon. The player should always assume the worst will happen and have a plan for when it does.

There’s no shame in running from fights or hiding out every time the sun sets. Even Hardcore veterans with years of experience can die to a Zombie Baby. It pays to take those extra few minutes to build scaffolding over cliffs or when building things. Spending a day to upgrade from Iron to Diamond before tackling a fortress in the Nether is a worthwhile investment if the player is even the least bit concerned.

Regional difficulty[]

Regional difficulty values shown on the debug screen

Regional difficulty or local difficulty is a value between 0.00 and 6.75 that the game calculates by considering not just the world difficulty setting, but also the inhabited time of a chunk, the total daytime in the world, and the phase of the moon. This value is shown on the debug screen as the first value listed after the heading «Local Difficulty». This value determines several aspects of the difficulty of gameplay (see ).

The inhabited time of a chunk increases for each tick a player spends with the chunk loaded. This is a cumulative measure of time—if 50 players spend a single hour in a chunk, it counts the same as if one player spent 50 hours there. The effect of inhabited time on regional difficulty is capped at 50 hours.

The total daytime in the world is the value from added to the «Day» on the F3 debug screen converted to ticks, i.e. . This is not the same as the actual playtime in the world (the value from ). It affects the regional difficulty after the first 3 in-game days, and has no additional effect after 63 in-game days.

In pseudocode, the calculation of regional difficulty is:

# DaytimeFactor, ChunkFactor, and RegionalDifficulty are floating-point variables
# MoonPhase is as in the table above.

if (difficulty is Peaceful) return 0

if (TotalDaytime > 63 in-game days) DaytimeFactor = 0.25
else if (TotalDaytime < 3 in-game days) DaytimeFactor = 0
else DaytimeFactor = (TotalDaytimeInTicks − 72,000) / 5,760,000

if (ChunkInhabitedTime > 50 hours) ChunkFactor = 1
else ChunkFactor = ChunkInhabitedTimeInTicks / 3,600,000

if (difficulty is Normal or Easy) multiply ChunkFactor by 0.75

if (MoonPhase ÷ 4 > DaytimeFactor) add DaytimeFactor to ChunkFactor
else add (MoonPhase ÷ 4) to ChunkFactor

if (difficulty is Easy) multiply ChunkFactor by 0.5

RegionalDifficulty = 0.75 + DaytimeFactor + ChunkFactor

if (difficulty is Normal) multiply RegionalDifficulty by 2
if (difficulty is Hard) multiply RegionalDifficulty by 3

return RegionalDifficulty

The raw regional difficulty therefore is always 0.0 on Peaceful and ranges from 0.75 to 1.5 on Easy, 1.5 to 4.0 on Normal, and 2.25 to 6.75 on Hard.

Clamped regional difficulty

How clamped regional difficulty relates to regional difficulty

The clamped regional difficulty is a value between 0.00 and 1.00 based on regional difficulty. This value is shown on the debug screen as the second value listed after the heading «Local Difficulty». This is yet another value that affects the difficulty of gameplay (see ).

The regional difficulty value is clamped as follows:

if (RegionalDifficulty < 2.0) value = 0.0;
else if (RegionalDifficulty > 4.0) value = 1.0;
else value = (RegionalDifficulty − 2.0) / 2.0;

Thus, on Easy, where regional difficulty is never higher than 1.5, the clamped value is always zero.

On Normal, the effects reach the maximum after 63 in-game days (1512000 game ticks) in a fully-inhabited chunk on a full moon; and on Hard after 63 in-game days the effects reach the maximum in chunks inhabited 4 1⁄6 hours during a full moon and remain at maximum in chunks inhabited over 16 2⁄3 hours.[verify]

Multijoueur[]

Game over man, it’s game over!”

  1. Стейке;
  2. Приготовленной свинине;
  3. Приготовленной баранине;
  4. Золотой морковке.

Основной ключ к выживанию — построить животную ферму и сделать ее по-настоящему большой. Каких именно зверей вы будете разводить значения не имеет. Нужно будет также построить пшеничные фермы, чтобы прокормить ваше стадо.

World settings[]

There are four difficulty levels in the game: Peaceful, Easy, Normal and Hard. These can be changed when creating a world, in the settings, as well as with the command.

Peaceful

No can spawn naturally, except for shulkers, hoglins, zoglins, piglin brutes‌[Bedrock Edition only], and the ender dragon. No mobs can deal damage to the player in peaceful. No spiders, cave spiders, zombified piglins or endermen – rather than hostile mobs – can spawn naturally. When any of these mobs attempt to spawn (whether naturally, through mob spawners, spawn eggs, or commands), they are removed from the game instantaneously. When the difficulty is switched from any other setting to Peaceful, all mobs that are not allowed to spawn on Peaceful are removed from the world. Players regain health rapidly over time. Despite this, it is still possible to if damage is received quickly enough. TNT deals no direct damage to the player, but it does give knockback still, meaning a player can be killed by it if it launches them too far upward. The hunger bar never depletes; in Java Edition, players therefore cannot eat anything except golden apples, chorus fruits, and milk buckets, unless the player switched to Peaceful when their hunger bar was below the maximum. Players can eat normally in Bedrock Edition. Additionally, if the hunger bar is below the maximum, it regenerates quickly.

End portals cannot be activated by the player in Peaceful difficulty, because it is impossible to acquire the twelve eyes of ender necessary to activate an end portal. However, it is possible for an end portal to be activated by naturally generating with an eye of ender already embedded within all 12 end portal frames. For any given end portal, there is only a 1 in a trillion chance of this happening.
However, because of the huge number of possible seeds, over 8 million seeds in Java Edition are known to generate such end portals.

Also, not all advancements / achievements can be completed in Peaceful difficulty.

Easy

Hostile mobs spawn, but they deal less damage than on Normal difficulty. The hunger bar can deplete, damaging the player until they are left with 10 if it drains completely. Cave spiders and bees cannot poison players on Easy difficulty, and the wither does not cause the Wither effect, although wither skeletons do. Lightning sets only the struck block on fire, not surrounding blocks. Zombies do not break down doors, and do not turn villagers into zombie villagers. Zombies and skeletons don’t wear full sets of armor. Hostile mobs like zombies, skeletons, spiders, husks and strays deal about 1 or 2 damage.

Normal

Hostile mobs spawn and deal standard damage, about 2 or 3. The hunger bar can deplete, damaging the player until they are left with with 1 if it drains completely. Zombies do not break down doors, but villagers killed by zombies have a 50% chance of turning into zombie villagers. Zombies and skeletons rarely wear sets of enchanted armor. Vindicators can break doors.

Hard

Hostile mobs deal more damage than on Normal difficulty. The hunger bar can deplete, damaging the player until they die if it drains completely. Zombies can break through wooden doors and can spawn reinforcements when attacked. Spiders can spawn with a beneficial status effect (speed, strength, regeneration & invisibility), with these effects having a nearly infinite duration in Java Edition. Villagers killed by zombies always turn into zombie villagers. Pillagers spawn near the player, with their attacks dealing 4 damage. In Bedrock Edition, if the world type is infinite, they deal 5 damage.

Hardcore mode

Icon for Java Edition Hardcore mode.

Main article: Hardcore

In Java edition, at the world creation screen, selecting Hardcore from among the game mode options causes the player to spawn in Hard difficulty, does not allow it to be changed, and allows the player only one life. In a single player world, a player who dies can choose to respawn in Spectator mode or return to the title screen. In multiplayer, upon death, the player’s game mode is automatically set to Spectator mode.

The only way to change the difficulty of Hardcore is to use the Open to LAN feature in the pause menu to enable commands, or to use an .NBT editor on the world’s .NBT file.

This difficulty is currently not available in Realms.

3 Become A Master Alchemist

Alchemy is a major source of power for the player. With the right ingredients players can craft potions that achieve all kinds of effects.

  • Swiftness gives the player boosted movement speed that can help them run away.
  • Night Vision will let the player see in the dark.
  • Strength increases melee damage. Invisibility

While these and other potions are useful there are some that are far more effective in a Hardcore situation. These potions provide an added layer of protection or even healing to keep death at arm’s length.

  • Invisibility prevents mobs from detecting the player at a distance.
  • Slow Falling prevents fall damage.
  • Fire Resistance prevents fire and lava damage which is great in the Nether.
  • Healing is an instantaneous heal.
  • Regeneration provides healing over time.

Some potions do require ingredients from dangerous sources. The Potion of Regeneration requires Ghast Tears, but others like Swiftness only takes Sugar. In the end having a variety of potions is critical to surviving the various threats in the Minecraft world and for facing the Ender Dragon.

10 Act Quickly In The Early Days

First things first, players need to move quickly as soon as they gain consciousness in their new world. Nightfall is the first main threat players will face and only a single day to prepare for it. There is quite a bit the player needs to get done, but it is more than manageable if the player acts quickly.

In the beginning players will need to follow some steps:

  • Gather at least four logs.
  • Craft a Wooden Pickaxe.
  • Gather enough stone for a Furnace and full set of stone tools.
  • Gather a stack of building materials such as Dirt, Wood, or Cobblestone.
  • Build a basic fully enclosed shelter.

At this point the player has somewhere they can hide from threats at night. Ideally the player will want to gather some meat from nearby animals along with a furnace to cook it. The player can opt for making charcoal using wood or coal if it’s readily available. At this point the player will have a shelter, food, weapons, and torches to keep them alive during the night. Building a bed is the priority as it allows skipping nighttime, but not all biomes have Sheep.

1.15 19w35a «Delete world» on the Hardcore death screen has been replaced by «Title screen», meaning players must manually delete the world.

2 Master Enchanting

Similar to Potions, Enchantments are another way to greatly increase the player’s power. Enchantments are special effects applied to armor, tools, and weapons that are not consumed like potions. Here are the best ones for offensive use:

  • Knockback can push enemies back.
  • Power increases arrow damage.
  • Punch causes arrows to knockback.
  • Sharpness increases damage.

Effective defense Enchantments can be:

  • Blast Protection to resist explosions.
  • Feather Falling to prevent fall damage.
  • Fire Protection to resist fire and lava damage.
  • Protection to resist all forms of damage.

The best Enchantments the player will want to look out for are:

  • Infinity for infinite arrows.
  • Unbreaking to increase any item’s durability.
  • Mending to automatically repair items with experience gain.

It’s also important the player avoids Curse of Vanishing as it prevents the player from being able to remove the item ever in Hardcore. Binding can also be annoying, but it can be removed by breaking the item naturally.

Enchanting can be very expensive and requires quite a bit of experience grinding. Fortunately, there are plenty of low risk ways to obtain the items necessary to craft an enchanting table and gain experience. Getting the right enchantments does rely on quite a bit of RNG so players will need to be patient and have plenty of Sugar Cane and Leather on hand to craft Enchanted Books.

6 Have A Stack Of Cobblestone

A great tool to beat Hardcore Minecraft is a stack of humble Cobblestone. When traveling, the player can quickly use this material to craft an impromptu base if night starts falling. It can also be used for pillaring to get a lay of the land and for making simple bridges.

In battle, Cobblestone can be used to evade monsters by creating walls and barriers. Neither Ghast fireballs nor Creeper explosion can break cobblestone. In fact, the only mobs that can break Cobblestone are Charged Creepers, which are rare, and, the Wither, which is an optional enemy.

How To Get Lots Of Cobblestone

By mining for other resources, players will naturally gather a ton of Cobblestone—likely more than they’ll ever need. Cobblestone is created when the player mines regular Stone, which is one of the most abundant kinds of blocks in the overworld.

9 Armor Up

Armor will protect the player from all of the common forms of damage that can result in death. Everything from mob strikes to lava blocks can be mitigated by wearing armor of any kind. As a result, it is in the player’s best interest to have a full suit of the best armor they can afford at all times.

Starting out there’s nothing wrong with having Leather, but Iron should be a first priority. A full suit of enchanted Iron armor is the bare minimum the player will want when exploring the Nether. But for the Ender Dragon the player will want a full set of Diamond armor with multiple high level or maxed out enchantments. It takes some time and considerable resources but having the best armor possible is key to long-term survival.

Features

Hardcore mode Button posted on twitter by Notch

“Hardcore” only differs from “Hard” difficulty in that it can’t be changed to another difficulty while playing in the world. There is no bonus chest, and cheats are not allowed. When a player dies, the «game over» screen offers a button to delete the world, instead of the respawn and title menu buttons which appear in Survival mode. However, since update 1.9, another button is available, allowing a player to enter Spectator Mode when they die, so they can explore the world one last time. Technically, the saved world file still exists until the «Delete World» button is pressed, allowing a player to ALT+Tab ⇆ and save the world with third-party tools. Closing the client and loading the world again only reloads the game at the «game over» screen.

Hardcore is also available in Multiplayer, but if a player dies, they can’t connect to the server again. Instead, a player will see a message stating: «You’re banned from this server».

Hardcore mode shouldn’t be confused with the mini-game «Ultra Hardcore Mode» where players don’t naturally regenerate.

When you die in Hardcore Mode and you have «Immediately Respawn» on, then the world will delete immediately.

Features[]

The game mode button showing Hardcore.

The key feature of Hardcore mode is that the player is not given the option to respawn upon death as they would in other game modes. Instead, there are two buttons on the death screen: «Spectate world» and «Title screen». «Spectate world» sets the player to Spectator mode and respawns the player at the world’s spawn point, making them able to view and explore the world only in that mode. The «Title screen» button simply leads the player to the main menu screen; re-opening the world simply returns the player back to the same death screen as before. Respawn anchors do not resurrect players in Hardcore mode.

In addition, Hardcore mode worlds are restricted to Hard difficulty.

When creating a Hardcore mode world, the Enable Cheats and Bonus Chest world options are locked to OFF. On the world selection menu, Hardcore mode worlds display dark red text reading «Hardcore Mode!»

While in Hardcore mode, the hearts representing the player’s health look different, as they include dark red marks inside the icon

Hardcore mode is specific to worlds, not players; the variable determining whether the world is in Hardcore mode is saved in . Thus, the player can use (if cheats are enabled) to set themselves to Creative mode. Players in Creative mode while on a Hardcore mode world still see Hardcore mode’s death screen upon death.

It is normally impossible to toggle Hardcore mode once the world has been created, though it is possible to use external programs such as NBTExplorer to change it by setting the tag to either 1 (hardcore) or 0 (normal).

However, it is possible to enable cheats through the Open to LAN feature in the pause menu. From here, the player can, while spectating the world after death, type to bring themselves back to Survival mode, being able to play again by cheating death.

5 Fast Draw Water Buckets

Water Buckets are another handy tool for staying alive and mitigating problems. They can be dumped over Lava blocks to turn them into harmless Obsidian and can put out fires. With a little practice players can use Water Buckets to create small pools that can negate fall damage. This is handy when pillaring or getting knocked off a ledge, though creating a waterfall is much safer.

Water buckets can also be used in combat situations. It can be used to create currents that prevent mobs like Zombies or Creepers from getting too close. They’re also really effective at damaging and deterring Endermen.

Notes and tips[]

Ultra Hardcore Mode, like mentioned earlier, is very difficult to survive when playing, and if you die, your map will only be available for spectating. Therefore, it’s important to know how to avoid dying. Here are some tips:

  • First of all, as stated before, there is no natural health regeneration. So, remember to avoid even the most pathetic ways of getting damaged, such as being spat on by a llama or touching cacti.
  • You’ll have to be really quick with getting resources, because no regeneration makes taking damage much more dangerous.
  • Find ingredients to make a golden apple, a potion of Healing, suspicious stew with regeneration, or a potion of Regeneration as quick as possible, as these are some of the few ways to regenerate health in UHC.
  • Although hard and labor-intensive to acquire, a beacon can make your life significantly easier, along with reducing the amounts of potions and apples you may consume.
  • Remember hunger is the most crucial part of survival. As with a normal survival, get food quickly. Hunger is a pitiful excuse for taking damage.
  • Keep a water bucket on your hotbar at all times. Falling and fire damage can be reduced by using a water bucket.
