Xbox 360 Beta[]

A private beta test version was playable among Xbox Live Gold members. It included three maps and both 1v1 and 2v2 matches. The beta test began June 16, 2008 and ended July 9, 2008. Participants were placed under non-disclosure agreement until the game’s first commercial launch.

Demo

The VIP demo for Xbox 360 users who pre-ordered the game was released a little more than a week late on October 11. The demo features one single-player story mission, one map that is playable in Skirmish mode with either 1 vs. 1 or 1 vs. AI, and a Voice Command Trainer.

The VIP demo has a campaign mission at Kennedy Space Center. The Skirmish mode features the European Federation versus the United States over the Kennedy Space Center in Conquest mode. The demo was released on the Xbox Live Marketplace on October 15, and on the PlayStation Store on October 30.

There is also a special code that appears when the user exits the demo, which is used to unlock a special Spetsnaz battalion for use in the full game.

Reception[]

The Guardian gave the game a 4/5. It was praised for its «Highly addictive solo play…the game comes into its own with the massively multiplayer online Theatre of War.» While being docked somewhat for «occasional voice recognition blip». The website www.gametrailers.com gave EndWar a 9/10 saying that it was «Console strategy done right.» IGN rated EndWar as an 8 out of 10 taking marks away for the «Uninspired single player campaign» but still saw it as a more than solid RTS. Game Spot’s Kevin VanOrd rated the PS3 version of EndWar as a 7.5 out of 10 praising its «Innovative voice command mechanic» and stating «Persistent online campaign makes matches feel meaningful» but berated it for its lack of story and «simple rock-paper-scissors skirmishes». 1Up and Electronic Gaming Monthly both gave the game a C.

Прохождение

Каждое государство, принимающее участие в битве за выживание, имеет одинаковые юниты. Никаких особенностей и преимуществ нет. В распоряжении геймера такие боевые единицы, как инженеры, снайперы, роботы и обычные пехотинцы. Prelude to war[]

Tom Clancy’s EndWar Story Intro

The prelude to war takes place before World War III and explains how the conflict began.

On March 23, 2020, EF uplink sites in the «lawless zone,» where Croatia used to be, are attacked by an as-yet unidentified group of terrorists, who are using T-80 tanks, from a beached cargo ship. They are repulsed by EF Enforcers Corps (EFEC) forces. During the battle, the EF attempts to gain access to the cargo ship that the terrorists use but the ship is destroyed before they can gain access. Details of the attack are kept secret.

On April 4, when the final module of the Freedom Star is set to launch from Kennedy Space Center amid international outcry, the same group of terrorists attack the module and attempt to destroy it, using the same methods as the Croatian attack. Once again they are repulsed, this time by the United States Joint Strike Force (JSF) as reports of yet another terrorist attack come in, this time of an assault on the Rozenburg petrol plant in the Netherlands. After being defeated by EFEC forces, the terrorists identify themselves as the «Forgotten Army» composed of people from a collection of failed states in the Balkans, Africa and South America.

Following a final terrorist attack, this time on a Russian power plant near Minsk (an attack which the Russians were aware of beforehand but played along with for aesthetic purposes), the U.S. finds «conclusive evidence» that the EF’s defense minister, François Pulain, funded the Forgotten Army with modern military equipment. Suspecting there to be a conspiracy within the European government to prevent the completion of the Freedom Star, The Americans send a black-ops team to abduct Pulain while he inspects the uplink network in Copenhagen, the site of the EF’s main naval base. They manage to capture him but an anonymous call by Russia informs Danish police, allowing EFEC forces to prevent extraction and trap the team in one of the uplinks. On April 7, the U.S. crashes Copenhagen’s uplinks and sends in JSF units to rescue the trapped team. The U.S. successfully repels the EFEC’s first attack, but European forces are able to counter-attack and reboot Copenhagen’s uplinks in their favor. The JSF forces are forced to surrender and are allowed safe passage back to the U.S. in exchange for releasing Pulain.

The events in Copenhagen spark a major international incident but the U.S. and EF stop just short of declaring war. As last-minute peace talks are arranged to be held on neutral ground in London, it is revealed (to the player only) that Russia funded the Forgotten Army’s attacks and planted the evidence against Pulain, citing the need to keep the EF and the U.S. from uniting in order to take Russia’s oil. To ensure that war is sparked between the two powers, elements of the Spetsnaz Guard Brigade (SGB) embark on a covert operation, disguised as Forgotten Army soldiers, to upload a virus into the European SLAMS network at Rovaniemi air base in Finland. The virus causes an EF orbital laser satellite to shoot down the new Freedom Lifter module during lift off, thinking it to be an ICBM. The entire crew is killed, and news reports blaming problems from «malfunction» to «terrorist hijacking» to (finally) «EF satellite.» This final act starts a war between the two powers. Russia initially joins the U.S. under the guise of «aiding it in its crusade against Europe» and invades EF-controlled Poland, but the Americans see this as an attempt to reform the Eastern Bloc and attack Russia. World War III has begun.

Units[]

Infantry

• Wolves — Elite riflemen armed with AK-74’s, they are the toughest troops in the world, and none can match the Wolves’ durability in a combat zone.
• Bears — Unsophisticated but effective engineers armed with RPG’s and Flamethrowers, the Bears use somewhat cruder equipment compared to Grenadiers and Pioneers but are just as deadly.

Vehicles

• T-100 Ogre — The SGB’s main battle tank, Ogres are very heavily armed and armoured, being one of the most terrifying units an enemy can face.
• BTR-112 Cockroach — The primary IFV transport for the SGB, it strikes a fantastic balance between transport and AA platform.
• Ka-65 Howler — This gunship for the Spetsnaz forces is heavily armed and just as heavily armored, often called the «flying tank.»
• KV-20 Zhukov — Crude compared to the artillery deployed by the JSF and EFEC, the Zhukov is however in line with Russian artillery tradition of being terrifyingly effective.
• MAZ-660 King Spider — The Spetsnaz command vehicle, SGB commanders utilize these vehicles for command and control.
• BMP-3 — The main infantry fighting vehicle of the Russian Federation’s Spetsnaz guard brigades in the EndWar novel.

Support

• Mi-55 Locust — SGB support helicopter used for infantry deployment.
• KA-29 — Transport helicopter used by Russian forces in the EndWar novel.
• Mi-80 Tarantula — Heavy transport helicopter use by SBG to bring in armored vehicles.
• Su-38 Slamhound — SGB fighter/bomber carries out attack missions for the SGB.
• Tu-3 Vulture — Armed UAV deployed by the King Spider.
• RU-20 Bodyguards — Specially trained bodyguards deployed to defend the MAZ-660 King Spider and uplinks, they are used as Russian «drones.»

Plot[]

After capturing a Russian GRU Colonel named Pavel Doletskaya in Moscow, the Joint Strike Force (JSF) Team Victor retreats from Russia, with Sergeant Nathan Vatz as the only survivor of Team Victor. Colonel Doletskaya was interrogated by Major Alice Dennison back in the US. The colonel himself never answered a thing after he was tortured. Major Alice invited Charles Shakura, the best interrogator of the JSF. Yet the Colonel never answered a thing and Doletskaya was sent to Cuba. Meanwhile, the Outlaw Team of the US Marine 1st Force Recon were at Cuba when the team found a Learjet crashing on a field. The Outlaw Team found only one survivor, Charles Shakura. He told that this was only a decoy. Colonel Doletskaya was ferried to Cuba later on. After a combat between the Outlaw Team and the Russians, Terry Jones, the assistant of the Outlaw Team leader was shot in the neck by the Russians.

After launching Freedom Star space station from the JFK Space Center in 2020 (it’s purpose being able to deploy US Marines any where in the world within 90 minutes), the space station was attacked by members of  Green Brigade (later found in the next book that the attack was performed by a splinter group called Forgotten Army), a powerful and infamous terrorist group. Many US Marines were killed and the Russians were blamed for this. Since then, Russia would conduct an operation codenamed Operation: 2659. Major Alice Dennison asked this question many times, «What is Operation 2659? Who is Snegurochka?». Colonel Doletskaya hold the key to these answers. Back at Tampa, Major Alice Dennison received a book from her father for her birthday. The book was entitled ‘Russian Myths and Folklore’. She was reading when she found out that Snegurochka was a female character in Russian folktales. Major Alice believed that Snegurochka must a codename for a female GRU operative. Meanwhile, Commander Andreas and his team were in the submarine USS Florida submerged in the waters of Canada combatting Russian battleships and carriers with JDAM rockets. Major Stephanie Halverson and Captain Jake Boyd of USAF were flying over Canada with their F-35 Lightning II when they were under attack by Russian Ka-29 helos. After Jake’s F-35 was shot down by the Russian helos, Major Halverson shot down many more Russian helos and tried to land the bird to rescue Jake. He refused to be rescued because Major Halverson had the risk of killing herself. Jake Boyd was then killed by the Spetsnaz Infantry after Major Halverson took off with the F-35. The US realized that Russia was invading Canada, the United States, and Europe. At that time, Russia was the world’s leading gas and oil suppliers, while Canada was the world’s second. After refueling at Igloo Base, Major Halverson with her new wingman Captain Lisa Johansson combatted more Russian helos when both of the F-35s were shot down. Major Halverson was the only one who survived the crash after ejecting. Back at the US, Major Alice Dennison figured out the answers to the questions. Operation 2659 is the invasion of North America and Europe, securing the remaining oil wells in the Middle East, and having Russian Allies in Africa engage US allies in Africa. And Snegurochka is Colonel Viktoria Antsyforov. Colonel Doletskaya was in love with Antsyforov until she apparently died.

World War 3[]

Depending on how well you do in the war, the European Federation can become the victorious faction, or it will be defeated in the war. General Amadou de Bankole will be pleased about Europe’s victory, or he will be disappointed that the EF has lost the war.

Overview[]

The original Spetsnaz units were created in the early 20th Century under the control of Soviet intelligence. Spetsnaz quickly acquired an impressive reputation for toughness and professionalism, even creating their own martial art, which they called «Systema» (simply the System). These units consisted solely of infantry, and were not, as the name suggests, frontline combat units. The present unit seems to be under the Ministry of Defense. Unlike the original Spetsnaz, the Spetsnaz Guards have their own armored, aviation, artillery, and infantry components; and are frontline troops, which makes their name sound odd. The Spetsnaz Guards maintain the high standards of their predecessor unit. They are hardened veterans of Russia’s many regional conflicts, these troopers are a highly effective, determined, and ruthless force. The Spetsnaz Guards strategy emphasizes heavy weapons and heavy armor, individual brigades often ingeniously modify standard-issue equipment to suit their needs, resulting in vehicles bristling with bolted-on weaponry the original designer never dreamed of including. Soldier to soldier, no military force on Earth can match the SGB in terms of raw brute force, the Spetsnaz soldiers are veterans of various conflicts. This has hardened the Spetsnaz considerably, making them far more brutal and uncaring compared to the JSF and EFEC.
