Behind the scenes

  • In DC Comics, Uxas, the younger pre-Darkseid version of the character, was pure hatred personified. He was the son of Yuga Khan (the ruler of Apokolips) and Heggra. Uxas wanted the throne for himself even though his brother, Drax, was next in the line of succession. Turning on Drax, Uxas stopped him from gaining the power of the Omega Force and claimed the power for himself, becoming the ruler of Apokolips taking the name «Darkseid». A merciless tyrant who demanded unwavering devotion and abject fear from all his subjects. He was a major player in the cosmic war that was the «Final Crisis».
  • Darkseid in the DC Extended Universe is the second live-action incarnation of the character, following an incarnation made by CGI. That being said, the seeds have been laid in the Arrowverse for Darkseid and the New Gods to appear for some time.
  • Storyboard details of Zack Snyder’s original cut of Justice League shows that Darkseid was supposed to be introduced in the film. The storyboard shows an alternate storyline, in which Superman had a vision of the Mother Boxes successfully merging to form the Unity and destroy the Earth, leading to the dark possible future Batman witnessed in his vision.
  • A deleted scene from Justice League showed Diana visiting Themyscira and learning about Darkseid and Steppenwolf’s previous invasion on a mural.

DC Universe Online Description

DC Universe Online is set in one of the alternate realities in the multiverse based on the DC Comics properties. In this particular reality, a future Lex Luthor escapes into the past to prevent the cosmic threat of Brainiac from taking over. Using exobyte technology, Luthor initiates a global effect that causes certain individuals to gain superpowers.

Despite the protests of the present Justice League, Luthor claims this is the only way to save the future.
Players create their characters who is one of the individuals affected by these exobytes. DC Universe Online lets players choose either the Hero or Villain faction. There is a robust character creation system that lets players choose customization options such as body type, personality (which affects the character’s poses and emotes), movement power (such as flight, acrobatics, super-speed, and such), powers and weapons. Players who would like to start playing immediately can choose from templates based on familiar DC Comics superhero archetypes.

The world of DC Universe Online is generally a public shard, allowing a multitude of players interact with one another, doing heroic or villainous actions against the civilian bystanders. Depending on which faction the player chose, the characters will be members of the Justice League or the Society. The famous members of each faction would be the contacts and mentors, that assist the player characters. This can be in the form of providing advice, giving quests and missions.

DC Universe Online has continually added expansions in the form of Episodes, with the most recent being World of Flashpoint. Episodes add new areas, new options, and new missions. As the world of DC Universe Online is based on comic book stories, there is a wide variety of genres in the game, from science fiction, mythology, time travel, and many more. There are also seasonal events such as the Anti-Monitor Anniversary which occurs every January to Season’s Greedings during the Christmas season in DC Universe Online.

History[]

While heroes have existed since before recorded time, the history of the modern hero community in America can be divided into four current «Ages». With the first «Age»; known as the «Golden Age», marking the time of the «Mystery Men» of the World War I, Great Depression, World War II and Cold War era.

Some of the primary heroes of the Golden Age were Wildcat, Flash (Jay Garrick) and Hawkman, with the community largely being guided by Green Lantern (Alan Scott) during times of crisis.
While the era is primarily known for the rise of the Justice Society of America, the era also featured the largest gathering to date of American Superheroes known as the All-Star Squadron; formed in 1941 following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor to supplement America’s forces in the war. The team consisted of the majority of the heroes and heroines operating in the United States of America at the time and was formed at the order of then-American President Franklin Roosevelt.
Nearing the ending years of the Cold War, when the Communism-scare was at its highest, the American Government launched a Registration Act led by Joe McCarthy which demanded that masked heroes unmask themselves to the public. Fearing that their friends and families would come under threat should the public know their identities, many heroes and heroines operating at the time opted to retire from crime fighting instead of revealing themselves. This marked the end of the «Golden Age» of Superheroes.

While heroes still operated during the following years, most notably exemplified with the tragic hero group, the Justice Experience, they rarely if ever revealed themselves publicly until the very public arrival of Superman; marking the beginning of the «Silver Age».
As many heroes brought themselves out of retirement or otherwise revealed themselves thanks to Superman’s example, the hero community grew and soon the spiritual successor to the JSA, the Justice League of America, was formed out of the community’s leading members; which included the «Trinity»; Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. While the JLA was originally formed to combat extraterrestrial threats, it quickly became the public face of the community and an example by which other heroes were measured. It was during this age that the superhero youth; «the sidekicks», gained public recognition as well and formed their own «youth-only» hero team; the Teen Titans. The new generation becoming unofficially led by Robin.

A major turning point for the community was the rape of Sue Dibny; wife of Ralph Dibny (aka Elongated Man), while residing on board the original JLA satellite by the villain Doctor Light, as it marked one of the first major volleys of escalation in aggression between the heroic and villainous communities.
Realizing that they had to escalate their methods against the villain community if they were to defend their families and friends, a select group of heroes began using magic to alter the minds of some of the more dangerous and irredeemable villains on Earth without the knowledge of the Trinity. When Batman discovered this, they were forced to also use mind-altering magic against him.
As time went on, the villains became more extreme in their methods and heroes began attempting to use lethal force to end their threats; much to the community leaders’ dismay.
This age, known as the «Dark Age», is marked by a series of catastrophic events that marred the community’s spirit. These events included the death of the second Robin at the hands of the Joker, Superman’s death from stopping the kryptonian monster Doomsday, Batman’s defeat and crippling by the mercenary Bane, Wonder Woman’s prophesized depowerment and death, and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)’s corruption by Parallax.

While the community continued operating and some individuals recovered from their ordeals, the age never truly ended until the accumulation of the Infinite Crisis, which saw the arrival of two alternate-Earth Supermen and Lex Luthor attempt to take over and re-write existence due to how dark and corrupt the world had gotten.
Managing to ward off their attempts, the hero community now looks forward to a new era of heroics as they rebuild their homes, reaffirm their moral oaths and let go of past grievances to fight for a better tomorrow.

Equipment

  • Mother Boxes: Darkseid and his forces utilize Mother Boxes to travel throughout space and terraform conquered planets.
  • Staff: In the first Invasion of Earth, Darkseid wielded a staff with an axe-head (notably used to slice the ring hand off of Yalan Gur) in combat. The weapon was shattered by Ares when he was in combat with the God of War, and it is unknown if the weapon was ever remade to be used in the present-day.
  • Anti-Life Equation: During the first Invasion of Earth, Darkseid almost harnessed this mathematical formula to increase his power to nearly unimaginable levels. In the Knightmare timeline, Darkseid succeeds in fully harnessing it, and is able to bend nearly all in the Multiverse to his will. However, it seems that beings of tremendous willpower, like Superman, are resistant to the Equation, since Darkseid only took over the Kryptonian’s mind after the death of Lois Lane.
