Tale of the Taco
The Tale of the Taco event, which was leading up to the reveal of Battle for Neighborville, has several scrapped features to it. For starters, in the player’s backyard, they could interact with a telescope in which they could’ve interacted with a character named Talk-o, which is a giant taco on top of the Town Center. The taco was referred to as «the taco of your dreams.» After the dialogue with the taco, the player would see a screen that would have shown rewards. It is presumed that these rewards would have been for Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, as the name for that game was also found within the UI setups for the reward screen.
Another thing left unused was a Propulsive Salsa mode. This would’ve been similar to Team Vanquish, but there are hidden salsa power-ups around the maps, and collecting them would give the player buffs, such as low-gravity. This is similar to a cut mode from Garden Warfare 1 called Super Team Vanquish. For unknown reasons, this event was scrapped and scaled back.

Primary weapon
The primary weapon of the Rose is Magic Thistles. It is a fully automatic weapon that fires slow-moving projectiles that home in on targets, meaning the weapon does not require much aiming. The way the homing works is, as long as you have your crosshair on the target, your projectiles will home successfully. You can tell whether your shots will home or not by seeing whether the crosshair is red or white. If it is red, your shots will home. These projectiles don’t usually miss but can be obstructed by solid objects. It does 9 damage at all ranges and 10 if the damage upgrade is equipped. This weapon can be fired 20 times before it needs to be reloaded.
Trivia
- Engineer has a visible butt crack and is one of the four zombies in the whole series to have him showing it (excluding its variants except for the Welder and Landscaper), the other zombies are Barrel Zombie when his barrel breaks, the Gargantuar Zombie, and the DJ Zom-B in Plants vs. Zombies Adventures.
- He is very similar to the Engineer from Team Fortress 2, as they both can build teleporters, turrets/sentries which can be upgraded three times, wear hard hats and share the same name.
- Sometimes he says a garbled version of, «I’m gonna eat your brains!» when the player spawns as him.
- Upon spawning, he also may say other garbled lines including one referring to himself as an Engineer.
- The Zombot Turret used to be one of the Engineer’s abilities, but was replaced by the Zombot Drone.
- He makes a laughing noise when he builds a teleporter or building/upgrading a Zombot Turret.
- He bears a resemblance to Digger Zombies from the original game in structure.
- When the player builds a Zombot Turret, the name of the turret will be «‘s Zombie», even though it is a turret, this is no longer accurate in GW2.
- Engineer is the only playable zombie that does not start with his middle ability.
- Engineer has the least Super Rare character variants, having only two.
- There is a very rare glitch that only happens in the original Garden Warfare where if a Chomper
This also applies to the other Zombie classes.
swallows an Engineer, the Chomper will not get credit for vanquishing that Engineer. Also, the Engineer will reappear in a spot when the Chomper finishes and will appear near the plant.
- If the Engineer is using his Jackhammer ability and a Chomper attempts to swallow or Burrow him, the Chomper will only eat the Jackhammer and the Engineer will escape unharmed and gives him a chance to get away from or vanquish the Chomper, as long as he is not Gooped.
- In the first issue of the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 prequel comic book, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Dr. Zomboss repeatedly refers to the Engineer as «Gene Error,» suggesting his name is Gene
An engineer named «Gene Error» also appears in the Top Zombie quests to build various unsuccessful teleporters and a cannon, such as the ones at the bases in the Backyard Battleground.
.
- The Engineer is the only character class not to appear on the cover art of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2
However, the Stinky Goat on the cover art may be the Engineer as a goat after being transformed into one by Rose’s Goatify ability.
.
- He no longer has facial hair in Garden Warfare 2, but he has it again in Battle for Neighborville.
- All of the Engineer’s variants (minus Roadie Z and the Sanitation Expert who is closer to a garbage-man) are based on skilled trades: welding, industrial painting, automotive mechanics, electric wiring, plumbing, landscaping, and air conditioning. One can argue that the Sanitation Expert might be associated with commercial cleaning based on his description.

Primary weapon
The primary weapon for Super Brainz is the Heroic Fists. When used, Super Brainz will throw a punch. However, the player can do a three punch combo attack by holding down the attack button, dealing 15-25-45 damage. It has infinite ammo and does not need to cool down if the attack button is held down too long.
Super Brainz also has a second primary weapon named Heroic Beam. Similar to Captain Deadbeard’s Spyglass Shot, it can be used when the player zooms in. When the player attacks, Super Brainz will fire out a laser beam which requires to cool down when fired for too long. The beam deals 1-7 damage depending on range.
Variants
Each Playable Character class has six variants that give the base class a perk. The variants also differ slightly in appearance. Unlocking the variants is done through purchasing sticker packs from the Sticker Shop. Lower cost packs will result in single pieces being obtained randomly while the most expensive sticker pack will unlock a random new variant.

Unused/Scrapped abilities
Zombot Turret
The Zombot Turret was originally an ability for the Engineer. It was presumably the same as the buildable Zombot Turret, but able to be placed anywhere. It was replaced by the Zombot Drone later on into production. It can be seen in the Zombie Class Reveal trailer. Its ability icon can still be found in the files.

Hand Grenade
Hand Grenade was an earlier attempt at the Sticky Explody Ball ability. It would walk towards the enemy and explode once near it. It was originally going to be an ability for Gravedigger, then was considered for Scientist before ultimately being replaced by Sticky Explody Ball. Like the Zombot Turret, its ability icon can still be found in the files.

Sports Juice
The Sports Juice is a scrapped ability for All Star. After drinking the Sports Juice All Star would «hulk out» becoming more bulky. It was probably a limited lasting weapon that would make All Star attack at a close range. It was replaced by the Dummy Shield. The image for the Shield Decoy ability could be a reference to this ability.

«Value» list (appearance-wise, not rarity-wise) (PvZ: GW)
- Silver: These items have a solid Silver hue and have a varying degrees of reflectivity.
- Gold: Like Silver items but with a solid Gold hue and being slightly less reflective.
- Royal: These are Gold items decorated with gemstones of varying colors applied to various parts of the item in varying quantities.
- Diamond: These items have a surface made out of several side-by-side placed diamonds and give off a visible sparkle effect when seen up-close.
In Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, plant and zombie champions spawn with semi-randomized customization items on them. These customization items do not influence their abilities in any way and just like the ones the player can use, are purely cosmetic.

Trivia
- Function-wise, Citron appears to based of the Droidekas seen in the Star Wars franchise as both are able to curl themselves up into a spherical ball-shape to quickly traverse the battlefield and both use shields to block incoming fire (although the Droideka uses a spherical all-encompassing shield while the Citron’s shield only protects its frontside) in addition to using laser weaponry to attack (although the Droideka fires a stream of singular blaster bolts while the Citron uses a continuous laser beam).
- His Citron Ball skill could be a reference to Samus Aran’s Morph Ball from the Metroid series.
- His description also says «The Citron is a time-traveling bounty hunter,» which may also refer to Samus Aran because she is a galactic bounty hunter.
- His name could reference three things; one being Citrus, the fruit, which is an orange-like fruit, the name could come from the word «Citrus» and the «tron» part would come from Citron being part-robot, or, the name could come from Citron, the lemon-like fruit.
- His stickerbook description is a reference to Nada’s phrase from 1988 movie They Live, in which he says «I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass…and I’m all out of bubblegum.». This phrase is commonly mistaken for originating from Duke Nukem 3D
- He appears to be the only plant class that originates from Plants vs. Zombies 2, although it is heavily redesigned.
- The Spin Dash is probably based on the similarly named move of Sonic’s from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
- Mentioning that he is from the future references Far Future.
- The original Citron was from Far Future as well.
- EMPeach, his ability, is based on the plant of (almost) the same name from Far Future.
- Citron and Rose, along with their variants, are the only plants to wield an actual weapon. Citron is equipped with an orange laser blaster.
- According to the Garden Warfare comics, Citron’s Orange Beam is solar powered.
- The sentence, «He’s here to chew bubblegum and kick Z-Mech butt, and he’s all out of bubblegum» is a reference to a scene from the 1988 dystopian sci-fi action movie They Live.
- When the player customizes Citron, they can transform Citron into Ball Mode.
- In the January 2016 patch, Citron’s weapon now overheats faster. In addition, his Peel Shield now absorbs 75 damage rather than 100.
- According to Gary Clay, Citron and Future Cactus are best friends and occasional bounty hunting rivals in the future.
- In Assault Mode, he has the slowest movement speed out of all playable characters. In Citron Ball Mode, however, he is the fastest character.
- He and Citrus Cactus are the only plants based on oranges. However, Citrus Cactus doesn’t return in Garden Warfare 2.
- He is one of the four classes to have two Legendary variants (Iron Citron, Party Citron), with the others being Super Brainz (Toxic Brainz, Party Brainz), Kernel Corn (Party Corn, Commando Corn), and Imp (Party Imp, Scallywag Imp
Coincidentally, the former two characters (Citron and Super Brainz) are also the only classes that doesn’t have a fire variant yet.
).
- Citron, Torchwood and some variants of Chomper are so far the only plant classes that do not use clip-based weapons but instead use a weapon with infinite ammo that overheats.
- In trailers, he had 32 ammo, different ability icons and his weapon name was «Orange Laser» instead of «Orange Beam.» This was later changed to infinite ammo with an overheating mechanism.
Zomboss Factory
Zomboss Factory is an unused map which was was most likely going to be used in Gardens & Graveyards. It has 2 pages dedicated to it in The Art of Plants vs. Zombies. Multiple pieces of concept art related to the map show ZomBotany zombies, it is unknown what they were going to be used for. The idea was reused for the map Z-Tech Factory in Garden Warfare 2. You can see the Zombot assembly line used in the Garden Warfare 2 version in concept art. One of the cabinets from the concept art can be found in the zombie spawn in Driftwood Shores. Part of the map was possibly used in the Boss Mode trailer, as you can see some of the objects from concept art in it. Multiple references to the map can be seen out of bounds in the Garden Warfare 2 version.

Strategies
Tips and tricks
- Try to use Heroic Beam more than Heroic Fists, as it will let you vanquish plants from a far distance.
- Turbo Twister is very useful when you are using it to escape a fight. Use it when you are on low health or are outnumbered, as you gain damage resistance and increased speed.
- Use Heroic Kick to close the gap between you and the plants, and to also get extra hits off of them. You can also use Heroic Kick as a movement option, as it covers a good distance. Sneaking up next to a plant with Heroic Kick can also catch them by surprise.
- A good tip for quickly traversing across the map is to use Heroic Kick in the direction of your desired location while spamming and holding the jump button. Don’t touch the movement controls though as that kills your momentum.
As
As Super Brainz your main objective is simple, get in and vanquish plants, with your fists.
Charging into battle, beware of Cacti, while short-work up close they are the most dangerous plants you can encounter from afar. Hide behind terrain to make them unable to shoot at you. Should you ever encounter Cacti or any plant at a distance, zoom and use your Heroic Beam to fight them back.
Your Heroic Kick ability will help you get places quickly, and start off punch combos. To move, simply jump into the air, angle your kick to the desired direction, and kick. You will fly in that direction with high speed. Do not move at all until you hit the ground, as by doing so you halt momentum from the kick. (Due to a recent update, all Super Brainz characters can use this ability twice).
As a combo move, either adjust your kick so you end the moment you damage the plant, or make a short hop, followed by a stomp kick close to the plant. This shaves off a small amount of HP from the plant making a little faster to vanquish.
Turbo Twister is useful for getting out of tough situations, as the extra speed and damage resistance makes you tough to kill. If you decide to use it as an attack, use it when you know that the enemy you are fighting is on very low HP (Turbo Twister doesn’t deal much damage).
Finally, Super Ultra Ball. Super Ultra Ball is a weaker, inaccurate version of the ZPG. In turn, it can be used very frequently and can be aimed in mid-air. Expect this weapon to splash plants rather than a direct hit. Should one land ready your beam to vanquish them.
Beware of Chompers and Rose. Both of them are capable of neutralizing most of Super Brainz’ functions in many ways, as he remains powerless in melee or ranged encounters (respectively) to a skilled player. On sight try to ambush them before they to you.
Against
Super Brainz can be a tough opponent to face from afar or up close. His many attacks allow him to deal with plants anywhere, as well as dishing out enough damage to vanquish. The best times to attack Super Brainz is when he uses one of his abilities. Most of his abilities will leave him open to attacks, especially his Turbo Twister. He is also incredibly vulnerable while firing his Super Ultra Ball, try to get a good amount of damage done to Super Brainz while he is doing that. Super Brainz is also very slow on foot, and a very big target, so aiming at Super Brainz should be pretty easy. However, do remember Super Brainz has a large jump, so Super Brainz has an air advantage.
Spawnable zombies
There are 17 Spawnable Zombies that can be used. To summon a zombie, look for grave dirt piles. The spawnable zombies are used as assistance to fight against the plants in Gardens & Graveyards. Each are considered consumables that once used can not be picked back up. Spawnable Zombies can only be obtained by purchasing sticker packs with in-game coins.

Tale of the Taco Unused Content
The Tale of the Taco event has many scrapped features that were left unused. An example of which is Talk-O, which would have been a telescope players could interact with to talk to the taco on the Town Hall.
This mode would’ve been a take on Team Vanquish, and would have appeared during Week 2 of Tale of the Taco. For reasons likely relating to the release of Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville: Founders Edition, it was cut at the last minute. The gameplay of the mode is similar to normal Team Vanquish, except there are salsa pickups hidden around the map. These pickups would have given players a lot of buffs, such as low gravity.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
